The Communist Manifesto 001 – I.BOURGEOIS AND PROLETARIANS – 014

And how does the bourgeoisie get over these crises? On the one hand inforced destruction of a mass of productive forces; on the other, by the conquest of new markets, and by the more thorough exploitation of the old ones.
That is to say, by paving the way for more extensive and more destructive crises, and by diminishing the means whereby crises are prevented.

The weapons with which the bourgeoisie felled feudalism to the ground are now turned against the bourgeoisie itself.

But not only has the bourgeoisie forged the weapons that bring death to itself; it has also called into existence the men who are to wield those weapons—the modern working class—the proletarians.

In proportion as the bourgeoisie, i.e., capital, is developed, in the same proportion is the proletariat, the modern working class, developed—a class of labourers, who live only so long as they find work, and who find work only so long as their labour increases capital.
These labourers, who must sell themselves piece-meal, are a commodity, like every other article of commerce, and are consequently exposed to all the vicissitudes of competition, to all the fluctuations of the market

  1. And how does the bourgeoisie / get over / these crises?

  2. ⦁ crises: 위기
    – The company was struggling to deal with its financial crises. (회사는 재정 위기를 해결하려고 애쓰고 있었다.)

    ⦁ get over: 극복하다
    – It took him a long time to get over his illness. (그는 병을 극복하는 데 오랜 시간이 걸렸다.)

  3. On the one hand / inforced destruction / of a mass / of productive forces;

    한편으로는 생산력을 대규모로 파괴한다;

  4. ⦁ destruction: 파괴
    – The earthquake caused massive destruction.

    – She is a very productive worker.

  5. on the other, / by the conquest / of new markets, / and by the more thorough exploitation / of the old ones.

  6. ⦁ conquest: 정복
    – The conquest of new territories brought wealth to the empire.

    – The laborers were subjected to exploitation by their employers.

  7. That is to say, / by paving the way / for more extensive / and more destructive crises, / and by diminishing / the means / whereby crises are prevented.

  8. ⦁ diminishing:
    – The company’s profits are diminishing every quarter.

    ⦁ paving the way: 길을 열다
    – The new law is paving the way for economic reforms.

  9. The weapons / with which the bourgeoisie / felled feudalism / to the ground / are now turned / against the bourgeoisie itself.

  10. ⦁ felled:
    – The lumberjack felled the tree with a single ax stroke. (나무꾼이 도끼 한 번에 그 나무를 쓰러뜨렸다.)

    ⦁ turned against: 적대적으로 변하다
    – The allies turned against each other after the war. (전쟁 후에 동맹들이 서로 적대적으로 변했다.)

  11. But not only / has the bourgeoisie / forged the weapons / that bring death / to itself;

    그러나 부르주아지는 자신에게 죽음을 가져다줄 무기를 단지 만든 것뿐만 아니라;

  12. ⦁ forged: 만들다
    – The blacksmith forged a new sword.

  16. ⦁ proportion: 비율
    – The proportion of students passing the exam increased this year.

  17. These labourers, / who must sell themselves / piece-meal, / are a commodity, / like every other article / of commerce, / and are consequently / exposed / to all the vicissitudes / of competition, / to all the fluctuations / of the market.
